Why Train in Boxing?
As well as being a popular sport, boxing is an amazing form of self defence. Due to boxers only being allowed to use punches, this is what a boxer specialises in. Although it is a good idea to also learn some ground fighting techniques and kicks for self defence, most fights start from a standing position and in real life violent encounters, there often isn't the space to utilise kicks. Boxing is also fantastic exercise for the whole body & mind and a great way to get a fit, lean and toned body.
So why don't more people participate in it?
It is because not many people enjoy being punched in the face and if you train at any serious boxing gym, then sooner or later this will happen. Classes such as Boxercise have somewhat helped to overcome this barrier. However, as they focus much more on getting a workout than improving boxing skills, they don't provide much benefit when it comes to self defence.
