Men's Self Defence

Fact! In order to be able to defend yourself and your loved ones against any attacker you need to cross train in a range of disciplines.

Why Learn Self Defence

The matter how big, strong or competent a fighter you are, you still need to learn self defence.  Even if you are the best fighter in the world, eventually you are going to age and one day someone will come along who is able to defeat you. A defence strategy that relies on pure strength and fitness may work for you when you are young against a weaker opponent but as you get older or against a bigger stronger opponent you will need to learn a system based on correct technique.  Also, what if they have a knife? What if they have a gun and what if there is more than one attacker?

Our Men's Self Defence Programme will teach you to;

  • Know what to do in a worst case scenario.

  • Be able to incapacitate a much bigger and stronger attacker.

  • To disarm an attacker if necessary.

What is the best martial art for self-defence?

Martial artists have been arguing about this for centuries.  The reality of the situation is that although some martial arts/combat sports are much better than others, every single one of them has its weaknesses.  Here are some examples;

  • Boxing is brilliant for fitness, footwork, head movement and punching but as it is a sport with rules, does not address ground fighting or a situation where your opponent has a weapon.

  • Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is very effective when you are on the ground but not so good when there is more than one attacker.  Also many of the techniques used in the sport of BJJ are very effective in grappling only tournaments but are not advisable to use in a real street fight.

  • Taekwondo is excellent for flexibility and kicks but pretty much useless when you have been taken to the ground by a bigger stronger opponent who is trying to smash your head in to the floor.

There are a variety of modern fighting systems that have successfully addressed these issues however these too have their weaknesses.  Many experienced martial artists develop a false confidence in their ability to fight and make the mistake of believing that all techniques that work in the dojo are just as effective in a self defence situation.
